2024/25 GPL: Late goal earns Legon Cities first league win, stuns Kotoko at Legon Stadium

Asante Kotoko suffered their first defeat of the season on Wednesday night as bottom-side Legon Cities pulled off a surprise 2-1 victory at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Legon Cities, who had struggled early in the campaign with five losses and two draws, were keen to turn things around against the Porcupine Warriors.

Kotoko, on the other hand, aimed to secure three points that would bring them level with Bibiani Gold Stars at the top of the league.

The hosts took a surprise lead in the 23rd minute, with Albert Yeboah finding the net against the flow of play.

Despite Kotoko’s efforts to dominate possession, they went into the break trailing by one goal.

After halftime, Kotoko pressed hard to equalise, creating multiple chances but failing to convert.

Their persistence finally paid off in the 76th minute when Albert Amoah converted a penalty, marking his fifth goal of the season and levelling the scoreline.

Legon Cities’ Rahim Abdul struck a late winner just as the game seemed set to end in a draw, securing the home side’s first win of the season and delivering a blow to Kotoko’s title ambitions.
