Inaki Williams bags brace in Athletic Bilbao’s 4-1 victory over Espanyol

Ghana international Inaki Williams delivered a standout performance as Athletic Bilbao secured a commanding 4-1 win over Espanyol in their La Liga clash at the San Mamés Barria.

The Black Stars forward played a pivotal role in his team’s triumph, scoring twice in quick succession during the first half. Williams’ goals came in the 28th and 30th minutes, capping off a dominant display by the home side.

Athletic Bilbao took the lead just six minutes into the game when Spain international Daniel Vivian found the back of the net, assisted by Inaki’s younger brother, Nico Williams.

The hosts continued to press, and Inaki Williams’ rapid-fire brace put the game firmly in their control.

In the second half, Alex Berenguer, who had set up Inaki’s goals, added his own name to the scoresheet, extending Bilbao’s lead.

Espanyol managed a consolation goal in stoppage time through a direct free-kick from Spain international Álvaro Tejero, but it was not enough to spark a comeback.

Inaki switched his international allegiance to Ghana in 2022 and has been in fine form for Athletic Bilbao this season.

After 10 La Liga matches, he has tallied three goals and four assists. However, his success at club level has yet to fully translate to the national team, where he has scored only once in 17 appearances for the Black Stars.
