Afcon 2025Q: Ghana’s Elisha Owusu calls for focus ahead of crucial Sudan encounter

Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu has urged the Black Stars to step up as they prepare for their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan.

Ghana is aiming to bounce back after a rocky start to their qualifying campaign. A 1-0 defeat to Angola, followed by a 1-1 draw against Niger, has left the Black Stars in third place in Group F with just one point.

The back-to-back fixtures against Sudan are now pivotal to keeping their qualification hopes alive.

Speaking to the media after the team’s first training session in Accra on Monday, Owusu highlighted the importance of the upcoming matches:

“We know what we have to do. This game is important to us. We cannot afford to lose, so we will do everything to play well and win.”

Owusu also expressed confidence in the team’s commitment and reassured fans of their dedication to securing victories in both matches.

“We feel blessed to be here in Accra. I know the whole country is behind us, and we will do our maximum to put on a good performance for everybody,” he added.

The Black Stars will host Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, 10 October, with kick-off set for 4 p.m.
