2024/25 GPL: Asante Kotoko held to a draw by Berekum Chelsea at Golden City Park

Asante Kotoko’s early lead was not enough to secure victory as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park on Sunday in the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors made a strong start, with Kyei Dwamena finding the net just three minutes into the match after a well-placed cut-back from Dauda Saaka.

Following their previous draw against Young Apostles, Kotoko looked determined to claim all three points.

However, Berekum Chelsea fought back in the second half. Their persistence was rewarded in the 60th minute when captain Fuseini Zakaria equalised for the hosts. Despite efforts from both sides to find a winner, neither team could break the deadlock, meaning Kotoko had to settle for consecutive draws.

The result leaves Berekum Chelsea with a similar pattern to their season thus far, having managed only one win, which came against Karela United.

Kotoko, on the other hand, continue their search for a second victory following their opening-day success against Karela.

In other results from the weekend, Nations FC held Hearts of Oak to a goalless draw, while Bechem United secured their first win of the season with a 1-0 triumph over Dreams FC.

Medeama SC extended their unbeaten run, defeating Holy Stars to go top of the table.

There were surprises elsewhere as Young Apostles stunned Aduana FC with a 3-2 victory, and Karela United claimed a 2-0 win over Legon Cities away from home.

Samartex handed Vision FC their first loss in the top flight, while Heart of Lions and Bibiani Gold Stars played out a goalless stalemate.
