Derek Boateng criticises Ghana FA for lack of quality pitches in Ghana

Former Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng has strongly criticised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) amid the ongoing struggle to secure a venue for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan.

This comes after the Confederation of African Football(CAF) recently revoked the approval for Baba Yara Sports Stadium, leaving Ghana searching for an alternative.

Boateng argues that the GFA’s focus on financial matters has overshadowed its responsibility to maintain quality playing fields.

“The FA needs to wake up and do something because this is their job. They only care about money,” he stated in an interview with 3Sports.

“We have the players, the pitch is the problem. They train and play on fine pitches abroad every week. And when they come, they will have to readjust their mindset, and their style of play on our pitches after just two or three days of training.

“It will be difficult for them and that’s part of why they struggle here in our games even when they win. Sadly, we are in that kind of situation. Ghana now has to find a field to play their home games.”

In response, the National Sports Authority has confirmed that the Cape Coast Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium are ready to host the match in October.
