Clubs must protect the Ghana Premier League brand from betting – GoldStars CEO Kwasi Adu

Chief Executive Officer of Bibiani GoldStars, Kwasi Adu, has called on stakeholders in the Ghana Premier League to take action in safeguarding the integrity of the competition amid concerns over illegal betting and match-fixing.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Adu expressed concern that the league’s image is being tarnished by some individuals involved in illicit betting activities.

The GoldStars top executive cautioned that these actions are driving away sponsors and fans, which could severely impact the future of the competition.

“The Ghana Premier League is our brand, and we must protect it. People are trying to damage the league’s reputation through betting. This is pushing away sponsors and supporters.

“We need to bring fans back to the stadiums. They are, in many ways, the league’s main sponsors.”

The issue of match-fixing has plagued the Ghana Premier League for some time, with AshantiGold’s recent expulsion serving as a reminder of its impact.
