An unforgettable Champions League debut for me – Mohammed Salisu

AS Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu has expressed his excitement after making his UEFA Champions League debut in a 2-1 victory over Barcelona on Thursday night.

The Ghanaian international played the full 90 minutes at the Stade Louis II, delivering a standout performance as Monaco secured a crucial win.

In the game, Barcelona faced an early challenge when defender Eric Garcia was sent off in the 10th minute.

Monaco capitalized on their numerical advantage, with Maghnes Akliouche opening the scoring in the 16th minute.

However, the Catalans equalized before halftime through Lamine Yamal, but Monaco regained the lead in the 71st minute with a decisive goal from Nigerian striker George Ilenikhena.

Salisu’s contribution was significant in the game with four clearances, two interceptions, two tackles, and a commanding presence in aerial duels.

Following the match, Salisu took to social media to celebrate the occasion.

“An unforgettable Champions League debut in front of our incredible fans.

“The atmosphere was electric, driving us on to secure the win. Let’s carry this momentum into the weekend,” he wrote on Instagram.

Mohammed Salisu, who missed much of last season due to injury, is eager to make a strong impact this season both at Monaco and the Ghana national team.

The 25-year-old has made four appearances for Monaco across all competitions so far.

The left-footed centre-back is expected to marshall Ghana’s defence in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan in October.
