2024/25 Caf CL: Raja Casablanca coach Rusmir Cvirko criticizes Accra Sports Stadium pitch

Raja Casablanca head coach, Rusmir Cvirko, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the subpar pitch conditions at the Accra Sports Stadium, following his team’s 2-2 draw with Samartex, in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round on Sunday.

Speaking to Max TV after the match, Cvirko acknowledged his team’s efforts but sharply criticized the playing surface, which he believes significantly impacted their performance.

“I am not happy. I’m pleased we didn’t lose the game, but we should have won. On this pitch, it’s impossible to play our normal style,” Cvirko said.

The poor condition of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium has long been a concern for teams, and Cvirko stressed that it hindered his players’ ability to execute their usual strategy.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the Moroccan coach praised his team for their resilience and determination.

“Given how we played today, I say congratulations. That’s a big win for my team, and I am proud of these young boys,” he added. “But playing on this field made it very difficult.”

Raja Casablanca will now look ahead to the second leg, which will be played at home. With a 2-2 result in the away fixture, they will aim to secure a victory and progress to the next round of the competition.
