Afcon 2025Q: Niger and Ghana seek redemption in group F after opening defeats

Niger and Ghana are set to clash in a vital Group F encounter of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.

Both teams will be looking to recover from disappointing defeats in their opening matches.

Niger suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Sudan, with former Shrewsbury Town forward Abo Eisa scoring early in the second half to seal the win for Sudan.

Niger, whose last appearance at the tournament was in 2013, have struggled in recent matches, losing all three of their 2024 fixtures while scoring just one goal and conceding four.

Ghana, on the other hand, fell 1-0 to Angola in their first match, with Milson’s dramatic stoppage-time goal securing a shock victory at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars, who were eliminated in the group stages of the 2023 AFCON, are determined to avoid a repeat as they aim for their 11th consecutive AFCON qualification, having last missed the tournament in 2004.

Historically, matches between these two sides have been lively, with 16 goals scored in their previous five encounters.

Fans will be hoping for another exciting contest when they meet on Monday at 16:00 GMT (4:00pm Ghana time).
