Daniel Amartey denies Besiktas transfer window allegations

Besiktas defender Daniel Amartey has refuted recent claims made by the club’s spokesman, Huseyin Yucel, concerning his behavior during the summer transfer window.

In his first public statement addressing the controversy, Amartey dismissed the allegations as entirely false and urged the public to disregard them.

“They’re completely untrue. Nothing like that happened. Those allegations should be disregarded,” said the 29-year-old Ghanaian international.

Earlier, Yucel had claimed that Amartey rejected multiple transfer offers, including deals from Saudi Arabia and Turkish club Eyupspor.

Yucel further alleged that Amartey refused to board a flight to Saudi Arabia despite an agreement in place and even “escaped through the back door” after a deal with Eyupspor was reached.

Yucel also stated that Amartey expressed a preference for a move to Germany or England, despite the transfer windows in those leagues being closed at the time.

Amartey, who joined Besiktas last season after leaving Leicester City following their relegation from the Premier League, has yet to feature for the Turkish club this season.

While he made 27 appearances last season, his struggle for consistency reportedly fueled his desire for a summer exit.

With his contract running until June 2026, Amartey is now expected to reassess his options during the January transfer window after turning down seven clubs over the summer.
