2024 U-20 WWC: Black Princesses exit competition despite 3-1 triumph against New Zealand

The Black Princesses of Ghana have exited the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup despite beating New Zealand 3-1 in their final Group E match on Sunday evening.

The Black Princesses after losing their first two games against Austria and Japan, needed Argentina to draw against Costa Rica and a win could qualify them to the knockout stage.

However, Argentina downed their Central American opponents 1-0 and Ghana’s win against New Zealand could not make an impact in the third-place teams table.

Salamatu Abdulai broke the deadlock in the 59th minute byt the New Zealanders were level five minutes later through Emma Pijnenburg.

Ghana restored their lead after captain Stella Nyamekye’s cross was well connected by Abdulai’s looping header in the 72nd minute.

Substitute Tracey Twum brought on for Helen Alormenu in the 90+6th minute, scored the third in less a minute later after her introduction.

With three points out of three games, the Princesses finished third in the group  behind Japan and Austria.

The Asians recorded a vital 2-0 win to top Group E with 9 points whiles banging in 13 goals and conceding one.
