Afcon 2025Q: Kudus and Ayew lead attack as Mumin makes first start in Ghana XI vs Angola

Coach Otto Addo has named his starting XI for Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Group F qualifier against Angola in Kumasi on Thursday.

New Leicester City forward Jordan Ayew will be spearheading the Black Stars’ attack.

Ayew, who scored four goals in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June, including a match-winner against Mali and a hat-trick against Central African Republic, retains his spot.

Also featuring in the lineup is Mohammed Kudus, while Abdul Mumin, based in Spain, makes his first start for the Black Stars.

The defensive unit includes Alidu Seidu, Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Salisu, and Mumin, with Lawrence Ati-Zigi taking up his role as goalkeeper.

In midfield, captain Thomas Partey is paired with Elisha Owusu, while Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Antoine Semenyo occupy the wings.

Mohammed Kudus will operate just behind Ayew in a central attacking role.

Ghana will be aiming for a strong start in the Afcon qualifiers as they look to catch up with Sudan, who edged past Niger with a 1-0 victory on Wednesday.

Kickoff is set for 16:00 GMT at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Ghana Starting XI:

  • GK: Lawrence Ati-Zigi
  • DF: Alidu Seidu, Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Salisu, Abdul Mumin
  • MF: Thomas Partey, Elisha Owusu, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Antoine Semenyo
  • FW: Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew
