Afcon 2025Q: Pedro Goncalves commends Otto Addo’s quality ahead of Ghana clash

Angola national team Head Coach, Pedro Goncalves has praised Otto Addo for his work with the Black Stars ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Palancas Negras are guests for Ghana at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, September 6.

Goncalves, speaking ahead of the game on Thursday evening, says theBlack Stars have got flexibility and have improved in their play since the return of Otto Addo.

“Otto Addo gives more flexibility in formation, they can play in line of four, sometimes five in defence and I think Ghana is strong now.

“But we are also much stronger, and ready for tomorrow evening.”

The Palancas Negras have a core of their squad from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. A tournament they exited at the quarter finals after losing to finalists, Nigeria.

Goncalves, has been with the senior side since 2019 and was previously the coach of Angola’s youth side.

As an experienced gaffer on the African game, the Portuguese tactician is wary of the Kumasi atmosphere.

“One year and a half ago, we felt the atmosphere of Kumasi. The stadium, the crowd was lovely. I think Kumasi defines the passion side of African football.”

Ghana plays Angola at 16:00 GMT at the 45,000- seater Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
