Ajax secures Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana on season-long loan with option to buy

Dutch football powerhouse Ajax has bolstered its squad by signing Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana on a season-long loan.

The agreement includes an option for the Amsterdam club to make the move permanent for €20 million at the end of the loan period.

Kamaldeen, who transferred to Southampton from Rennes in 2023 for a fee of around €23 million, has struggled to make a consistent impact at the Premier League side.

Injuries have plagued the 22-year-old Ghanaian, limiting his playing time and performance. Despite making 44 appearances for the Saints, Kamaldeen has only managed to score two goals and provide four assists.

His move to Ajax offers a fresh start, particularly after Steven Bergwijn’s departure to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia opened up a space in the squad.

Kamaldeen, who has yet to feature this season due to injury, will be hoping to rediscover the form that once made him a promising talent.

Kamaldeen’s arrival at Ajax marks the continuation of the club’s tradition of investing in Ghanaian talent, making him the eighth Ghanaian player to don the famous red and white jersey.

The move presents an opportunity for both the player and Ajax, with Kamaldeen looking to reignite his career and potentially secure a permanent stay in Amsterdam if he can impress during his loan spell.
