Afcon 2025Q: Forson Amankwah receives late call-up to Black Stars

Ghana midfielder Forson Amankwah has been called up to the Black Stars squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger, following a late decision by head coach Otto Addo.

The 21-year-old, who plays for Norwich City, was initially excluded from the 23-man squad announced last Thursday.

Amankwah’s inclusion follows his quick recovery from a suspected dislocated shoulder injury sustained during Norwich’s Carabao Cup match against Crystal Palace last Tuesday.

Despite concerns that he might need surgery, further tests indicated that this was unnecessary, allowing the midfielder to return to action sooner than expected.

His resilience was on display as he played 45 minutes in Norwich’s 1-0 victory over Coventry City on Saturday, just days after the injury.

The Black Stars are set to continue their preparations in Kumasi ahead of their home match against Angola on 5 September at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

They will then travel to Morocco to face Niger on 9 September.
