Edmund Baidoo: RB Salzburg seal €3.3m fee to sign Ghanaian teen attacker

Austrian Bundesliga giants RB Salzburg have agreed to sign Ghanaian teenager Edmund Baidoo from Norwegian side Sogndal IF for €3.3 million.

The deal includes an additional €1.2 million in potential add-ons and a 15% resale clause, reflecting the club’s confidence in the 18-year-old’s future.

Baidoo, who played in Ghana’s Division Two League for AsanSka FC until March 2024, has experienced a rapid rise in European football.

After joining Sogndal, the versatile attacker – capable of playing on either wing or as a centre forward – scored seven goals and provided three assists in 19 appearances in the Norwegian Division 1 league.

Sogndal coach Tore André Flo acknowledged the significance of the transfer, despite the club losing a key player:

“I have to look at the bigger picture as well, of course. This is a great thing for the player, the club, and really the whole of Sogndal, as it gives us the opportunity to upgrade facilities and everything else that comes with such a sale.

“I think it’s something that all of us in Sogndal should be happy about.”

While Premier League clubs Wolverhampton, Brighton, and Everton also expressed interest, Baidoo chose Salzburg, viewing it as the ideal step for his development.

Edmund Baidoo missed Sogndal’s match against Ranheim at Fosshaugane on Sunday due to the transfer discussions.
