Ernest Nuamah injury woes add to Ghana’s AFCON qualifier headache

Ghana’s Black Stars could face a significant setback ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, as winger Ernest Nuamah has sustained a suspected thigh injury.

The 20-year-old forward was forced off the pitch after just 18 minutes during Lyon’s 2-0 defeat to Monaco at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais last Saturday.

Nuamah, who was replaced by Georges Mikautadze, was seen clutching his thigh, sparking concerns over a potential muscular problem.

The extent of Nuamah’s injury remains unclear, but the situation has added to coach Otto Addo’s selection headache as Ghana prepares for crucial qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

The young winger, who has been in fine form for the national team, netted a decisive header in Ghana’s 2-1 comeback victory over Mali during the last international window.

Ghana will host Angola on 5 September at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium before traveling to Niger for their second group fixture.
