2024/25 Caf CL: Scoring Samartex’s first-ever goal feels truly special, says Mamah

Emmanuel Mamah etched his name into FC Samartex’s history books with a crucial goal that secured their 1-0 win over Victoria United in the club’s first-ever Caf Champions League match on Sunday.

Reflecting on the achievement, the forward described the experience as both uniquep and immensely satisfying.

“Scoring the first-ever goal for Samartex in the Champions League feels truly special,” Mamah shared with the club’s media.

“It’s not an easy achievement, and I’m really happy about it. Before the match, I had a strong feeling that I would score, and it came true.”

Mamah’s powerful header from a well-delivered corner in the second half ensured the Ghanaian champions left the Japoma Stadium in Douala with a vital away victory.

The win gives Samartex the upper hand as they head into the second leg of their preliminary round tie.

The forward credited his offseason preparation, particularly his focus on heading ability, as key to his match-winning performance.

“During the offseason, I worked hard on improving my heading ability, and it’s already paying off,” he noted.

Mamah also emphasized the importance of the team’s confidence and preparation, which he believes were critical to their success on foreign soil.

“We were well-prepared and confident, even playing away from home, and it showed in our performance.”

Looking ahead to the return leg, Mamah called on fans to rally behind the team as they aim to progress in the competition.

“We urge all our fans to come out and support us as we aim for another victory in the second leg.”

FC Samartex will host Victoria United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, August 25, with a place in the next round of the 2024/25 Caf Champions League at stake.
