Benjamin Acquah strikes as Helsingborgs IF recover to beat Skövde

Ghana’s Benjamin Acquah continued his impressive form, netting his third goal of the 2024 Swedish Superettan season as Helsingborgs IF (HIF) secured a 3-1 comeback victory over Skövde AIK on Saturday.

The 23-year-old former Ebusua Dwarfs midfielder played a pivotal role in the road win, scoring HIF’s third goal just before halftime.

Acquah capitalized on a defensive mix-up in the Skövde backline, calmly slotting the ball home to seal the victory.

Skövde AIK initially took the lead in the 28th minute through Hugo Engström, but HIF responded strongly. Dennis Olsson and Jon Birkfeldt found the net before Acquah’s strike, ensuring HIF overturned the early deficit.

Acquah’s goal, his third of the season, underscores his growing influence in the Swedish second-tier league. The central midfielder’s performance continues to draw attention as he establishes himself as a key player for Helsingborgs IF.

The win keeps Helsingborgs firmly in the race for promotion as they look ahead to their next fixture in the Superettan against IK Brage on August 27.
