Semenyo rescues point for Bournemouth in late draw against Nottingham Forest

Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo struck a late equalizer as AFC Bournemouth salvaged a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest in their opening match of the 2024/25 Premier League season on Saturday.

Forest took the lead in the 23rd minute at the City Ground, thanks to a clinical finish by Chris Wood.

The striker capitalized on a rebounded effort from substitute Ryan Yates, who had replaced the injured Danilo, to slot the ball past the visitors’ goalkeeper.

Bournemouth appeared to have leveled the score in the 32nd minute through Dango Ouattara, but the goal was disallowed after VAR confirmed an offside in the buildup by Steve Cook.

Bournemouth struggled to create clear chances throughout the match, with Forest dominating much of the play.

However, the Cherries found an unlikely equalizer in the 86th minute when Semenyo pounced on a loose ball inside the box, smashing it home from close range after a deflected cross from Ryan Christie.

Semenyo’s late strike ensured Bournemouth escaped with a point, despite being on the back foot for much of the game.

In other Premier League action, Ghana’s national team captain Thomas Partey featured for Arsenal as they secured a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium.

Bournemouth hosts Newcastle in their next EPL clash. A fixture they won last season with a 2-0 result at the Vitality Stadium.
