FC Samartex head coach Nurudeen Amadu has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to secure a positive result in their upcoming CAF Champions League first-round preliminary tie against Victoria United.
The Samreboi-based club will travel to Cameroon for the first leg of the qualifiers, with the return leg set to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Timber Giants had a pre-season friendly against Togolese outfit ASKO de Kara.
Reflecting on his team’s goalless draw with Kara, Amadu highlighted the defensive discipline of his players.
“We defended very well, and the team was well-coordinated in their movement. ASKO de Kara is a strong side and played with great tactical awareness, so we had to be cautious,” he noted.
Amadu acknowledged that while his team created few chances, he is encouraged by their consistent improvement.
“We are teaming up well, and that is very positive. I’m happy with the progress we’re making.
“To me, this result gives us a good foundation as we prepare for our first match in Cameroon,” he added.
A successful outcome over the two legs would see Samartex advance to face either ASGNN of Niger or Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic in the second round.
The first leg of the preliminary round is scheduled for this weekend, with the second round set to take place between September 13-22.
