I would be surprised should Kotoko fail to win the 2024/25 GPL – Opoku Nti

Asante Kotoko legend Samuel Opoku Nti sees the club as the biggest favourites for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League(GPL).

The Reds kick-start their chase for a 23rd league title after failing to clinch the crown in the last two seasons to Medeama and FC Samartex.

Kotoko finished sixth in the 2023/24 top-flight division after 34 games and ahead of the new campaign, head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has signed 12 players so far for the challenge.

Bofoakwa Tano skipper Saaka Dauda, Great Olympics midfielder Emmanuel Antwi and former AS Soliman of Tunisia forward Elvis Kyei Baffour are new acquisitions.

For Samuel Opoku Nti, the Ghana Premier League title is for Asante Kotoko.

The club legend asserts that a sense of shock will cloud Kumasi should the club fail to win the trophy.

“I will be shocked if Kotoko don’t win the league, given the team they have assembled. And most fans will be too.

“These days, both individual talent and teamwork are crucial, sometimes the coach doesn’t need to give orders,” Opoku Nti told Akoma FM.

“In those situations, you need players who are mature enough to step up and support the team when called upon, and I think that’s what the current Kokoko team has.

“The additions Kotoko has made makes me extremely happy, and if this pattern keeps up, it will be a turning point. Considering Kotoko’s rivals, I’d be shocked if Kotoko do not win the league.”

The Porcupine Warriors begin the title pursuit against Karela United when the league commences, early September.
