Ghana coach Fatau Dauda advises GPL players to pursue financial investment before retirement

Black Stars of Ghana goalkeepers coach Fatau Dauda has urged players in the Ghana Premier League and the lower leagues to invest in housing properties before retirement.

The former AshantiGold, Orlando Pirates and Enyimba shotstopper, in an interview with JoySports, admonished the local players to focus on housing while active in their playing days.

Dauda, sharing his thoughts on player exodus and the quality of the Ghana Premier League asserts the need to be ready for life after retirement.

“My humble advice to the GPL players is for them to focus primarily on investing in housiing project before they end their career.

“The career lifespan of most footballers end at 34-35 years and that’s where you might begin to reflect on all the money you might have had while playing.

“It is important to note that other investments might depreciate but for land, it appreciates. I had the chance to buy a luxurious car after my 2008 Afcon but I chose to build a house and opted for an old model of Volkswagen.”

Fatau Dauda continued: The transfer window is open and some players might for the first time, receive huge sums they have never seen.

“This is the time for them to start good projects with the little they have and continue when the opportunity arrives to move abroad.

“After football, some might have not played in foreign league and will have nice projects for themselves.

“Whatever the plan, invest and invest well in your career.”

Fatau Dauda is currently working with Otto Addo as the new Black Stars goalkeepers trainer after leaving the Sudan national team job months ago.

At the North African nation, he worked with fellow Ghanaian trainers, Kwasi Appiah and Ignatius Osei Fosu.
