The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted Exceptional Approval for the use of the Accra Sports Stadium for CAF deburants, FC Samartex 1996 and Nsoatreman FC.
This decision follows the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) re-homologation process for the stadium.
Samartex will compete in the CAF Champions League while Nsoatreman participates in the Confederation Cup.
CAF noted that while the stadium remains in the same condition as when it was previously barred from hosting top-tier CAF/FIFA matches, the GFA and stadium authorities need to address issues with the playing field, spectator facilities, competition areas, and more.
Africa’s football governing body also informed the GFA that the stadium is not approved for Category 3 matches, including Interclub competitions’ group stage games and senior national team matches.
The National Sports Authority, GFA, FC Samartex 1996, and Nsoatreman FC must rectify the stadium’s defects before another inspection if the clubs qualify for the group stage.
The GFA and its partners are committed to addressing these issues to elevate the facility to a standard suitable for Category 3 and 4 matches.
