2024/25 GPL: Champions Samartex to open season at Dreams [+Full Fixtures]

Fixtures for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season have been released, with the competition set to kick off on Friday, September 6, 2024, some 82 days after the conclusion of the previous campaign.

Defending champions FC Samartex 1996 will begin their title defense with a challenging away fixture against Dreams FC.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak, one of the league’s giants, will face newly promoted Basake Holy Stars at home, and arch-rivals Asante Kotoko SC will travel to Karela United for their opening match.

The first matchday promises a series of thrilling encounters, with former champions Medeama SC hosting last season’s runners-up, Accra Lions. Premier League newcomers Vision FC will take on Berekum Chelsea, while Nsoatreman FC will clash with Young Apostles. Aduana FC face Heart of Lions, Gold Stars FC host Legon Cities, and Nations FC will go up against Bechem United.

Highlighting the season’s fixtures are the eagerly awaited Brong Ahafo derbies. Nsoatreman FC will host Berekum Chelsea on Matchday 3, Bechem United on Matchday 9, and Aduana FC on Matchday 11. Additionally, Aduana will square off against Bechem United on Matchdays 2 and 19, with Berekum Chelsea battling Bechem United on Matchday 11, setting the stage for a series of regional showdowns that are sure to captivate fans.

In the Western region, Medeama SC will face off against Basake Holy Stars on Matchdays 4 and 21, while FC Samartex will meet Gold Stars FC on Matchdays 2 and 19 in another regional derby. The Ashanti derby between Asante Kotoko and Nations FC is set for Matchdays 11 and 28.

The climax of the season will see FC Samartex 1996 travel to face Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko visit Vision FC, and Dreams FC host Legon Cities. The final fixtures also include Nations FC against Heart of Lions, Aduana FC versus Basake Holy Stars, Bechem United hosting Young Apostles, Karela United welcoming Nsoatreman FC, and Medeama SC up against Berekum Chelsea.

The opening round of matches will unfold over the weekend starting Friday, September 6, 2024, extending through to Monday, September 9, 2024, at all nine Premier League venues.

The season, spanning 34 weekends, will conclude on Sunday, June 8, 2025, with no official midweek matchdays, a decision aimed at reducing the travel demands on clubs.

The GPL will observe a one-week break leading up to the December 7, 2024, national elections, allowing players and officials the opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
