Afcon 2025 in Morocco set for December Kickoff

The Confederation of African Football(CAF) has officially announced that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) will begin on December 21, 2025, in Morocco.

The tournament is scheduled to run until January 18, 2026. This decision was confirmed today during a CAF Executive Committee held in Cairo.

The timing aims to prevent a clash with the Fifa Club World Cup which is set to take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025, featuring an expanded 32-team format.

The last edition of AFCON, held in Cote d’Ivoire earlier this year, captivated football fans with an intense competition.

The tournament culminated in a thrilling final where the host nation edged out Nigeria with a 2-1 victory to lift the trophy.

With the new dates set, Morocco is gearing up to host Africa’s first premier football event, promising another exciting chapter in the continent’s rich football history.
