Defender Yussif Nurudeen joins Kotoko for three years

Asante Kotoko have successfully secured the acquisition of defender Yussif Mohammed Nurudeen ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The completion of a thorough medical marked the final step of the centre-back signing with the Porcupine Warriors.

Arriving on a free-agent basis, Kotoko consider the experience and skill of Nurudeen – who captained Real Tamale United (RTU) last season – as valuable assets as the club looks to revamp its defensive lineup for the upcoming campaign. The contract spans until 2026.

In an official statement, the club said, “Asante Kotoko is delighted to confirm the signing of centre-back, Yussif Mohammed Nurudeen, following the successful completion of a mandatory medical test.

“The defender arrives on a three-year deal after spending two seasons with Real Tamale United.”

Nurudeen’s commendable performances for RTU earned him recognition and a call-up to the Black Galaxies after the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season. He made a significant impact on his former team, participating in 32 matches and amassing a total of 2,856 minutes of playtime. His contributions were recognised with the coveted title of “Man of the Match” on three distinct occasions.

Eager to embrace this fresh chapter of his career, the 30-year-old expressed his enthusiasm for joining the ranks of the record league winners.

Nurudeen stated, “This is a big club and a great opportunity for me to achieve my dream. I am very happy to join the family, and I look forward to winning trophies.”

Asante Kotoko are slated to commence their 2023/24 Ghana Premier League campaign with a highly anticipated match against Heart of Lions. The encounter is scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 16.
