No pressure on coach Prosper Ogum to win trophies – Kotoko IMC

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Asante Kotoko has tempered lofty expectations amongst its legion of fans and followers for the upcoming 2023/24 Ghana football season.

The spotlight is being shifted from the pressure for titles on their returning coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, towards constructing a robust foundation that will ensure the team’s continued success.

Dr. Ogum, notable for being the last coach to clinch the Ghana Premier League (GPL) title for the Porcupine Warriors, has been entrusted with the meticulous task of re-engineering the team to align with this fresh approach, with the eventual goal of vying for championships from the 2024/25 season onwards.

This strategic vision was unveiled by Kwasi Appiah, a pivotal figure in the IMC, during the press introduction of coach Dr. Ogum on Monday.

‘The day I got married is the closest thing to my Kotoko return,’ says Prosper Ogum

“The intention is for the IMC to build a formidable team. We should not put pressure on the coach to win trophies.

“Looking at those [players] going and coming, it will take time to get the best of the team.

“The intention is for the team to be very competitive in the second year,” Appiah, a club great and former Ghana Black Stars trainer stated.

The IMC, which came into existence in July, was tasked with the responsibility of navigating the club through challenging times. This followed the departure of the Dr. Kwame Kyei-led board and his management team, who were not granted a renewed mandate by the club’s esteemed Life Patron, Otumfour Osei Tutu II.

A thrilling new chapter is set to begin for Asante Kotoko, with pre-season training kicking off this forthcoming Tuesday with the focus firmly on making strides in the 2023/24 campaign which gets underway in mid-September.
