Official: D.C. United to host Medeama SC on October 14 in the USA

Ghana’s reigning champions Medeama SC will visit the U.S. in October to play an international friendly against D.C. United, the Major League Soccer (MLS) side has officially announced.

The date for this eagerly anticipated match is Saturday, October 14, with Audi Field chosen as the venue. D.C. United confirmed these details on Tuesday, and ticket pricing information has been made available on the club’s official website.

Danita Johnson, President of Business Operations at D.C. United, expressed the club’s enthusiasm for the forthcoming match.

“D.C. United are thrilled to bring another storied and well-followed international club to our home of Audi Field and to our local community of Washington, D.C.

“Soccer is a global sport, and this matchup against a historic Ghanaian club like Medeama SC will help us further grow the game in our region and provide another diverse experience for our fanbase,” said Johnson.

The friendly match is part of Ghana Week DC, an initiative aimed at fostering unity and collaboration between Ghana and the USA, and promoting a sense of connection and camaraderie.

Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Together, we celebrate culture, forge enduring connections, and usher in a new era of international camaraderie.”

Medeama SC, currently preparing for a Caf Champions League clash against Remo Stars, view the upcoming friendly as an opportunity to elevate their brand and increase their visibility on the global football stage.

As one of the founding clubs of MLS in 1996, D.C. United has an illustrious history, with a trophy cabinet boasting 13 domestic and international titles, including four MLS Cups, four Supporters’ Shields, and three Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cups.
