Ghana will face one of Togo and Guinea-Bissau to kick-start their campaign in the African qualifiers for the 2024 Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup.
The continental pathway to the global showpiece scheduled for Colombia was determined via a live draw conducted by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) in Cairo, Egypt on Thursday.
The Black Princesses – who just won the Wafu Zone-B U-20 Girls’ Cup – have been drawn to enter the race from the second round.
Ghana will have to wait for the winner of an interesting first-round tie between Togo and Guinea-Bissau.
Six nations with the lowest rankings will first take centre stage in a round-robin format between September 1 and September 10 – Equatorial Guinea vs Libya, Togo vs Guinea Bissau, and Mauritius vs against Chad.
The winners from this round will then move on to the second round of the qualifiers.
This round will see coach Yussif Basigi’s side in action. At the same time, Ethiopia take on the winners of the Equatorial Guinea and Libya pairing, Wafu Zone-A champions Senegal slugging it out with Mali. Nigeria, the semifinalists at the 2022 edition of the global competition, also face Burundi.
These second-round matches will occur between October 6 and 15, with the winners heading to the third round of qualifiers scheduled for November 12-19.
The four countries will then face each other in a round-robin format to determine two representatives for Africa at the 2024 Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup.
