Kotoko legend Karim Zito blames coaching for club’s abysmal 2022/23 campaign

Former Asante Kotoko player Abdul Karim Zito says the club’s poor run in the 2022/23 season is down to coaching.

The club legend spoke about the change in technical leadership in relation to the signings made by the club management.

Kotoko replaced Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum with Burkinabe gaffer Seydou Zerbo.

“When a team recruits young players and your coach lacks knowledge about youth development, things will fall apart.

“I had so much confidence in Prosper Ogum that he would deliver at Kotoko even though the players were young and new,” Zito opined on Akoma FM.

“He is filled with developmental football knowledge but if it had been any other coach, I would have been a bit skeptical.

“The Kotoko problem is not about recruitment of young players, we were all young when Kotoko recruited us.

“We were not playing for Hearts or any big team but rather lower clubs and luckily we were trained by an experienced coach.

Zito continued:  “All these problems was the resultant effect of the new coach who took over.

“It wasn’t going to be easy to perform with a team he (the coach) didn’t build, it only takes experienced coaches to nevigate this difficult hurdle.”

Kotoko failed to qualify for the FA Cup final and are 6th in the Premier League standings.

As they missed the cup final this season, it is their legend in Zito, who has made with Dreams FC.

The experienced coach will lead his side against King Faisal for the title.
