Emmanuel Gyamfi cops 5-game ban for stamp on Kotoko keeper

Barring any successful appeal, the winger will be eligible to make his return in Aduana's GPL match-day 20 visit to FC Samartex on March 3, 2023.

Aduana FC winger Emmanuel Gyamfi has been slapped with a 5-match suspension by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The 28-year-old has been found guilty of misconduct for stamping Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare during a 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) game at the Nana Agyeman Badu (NAB) I Stadium on New Year’s Day.

Gyamfi was charged by the GFA prosecutor with two counts of misconduct of which one – intentionally stamping the goalkeeper in an off-ball situation around the 31st minute of the match – stood.

Accepting guilt with an explanation, Gyamfi wrote in response to the Disciplinary Committee:

“On the first charge, I plead guilty and submit this written statement for mitigation. My improper action was in response to a stamp on my ankle by Kotoko goalkeeper Fredrick Asare, whom I felt was endangering my career with that singular action of his.”

But the player was not lucky with his plea due to the fact that he had been issued a warning for a similar act of misconduct while playing for Asante Kotoko two seasons ago.

Kotoko’s Gyamfi handed one-match ban for stamping on opponent

The Disciplinary Committee decided: “Emmanuel Gyamfi is given a five (5) match suspension in the Premier League with immediate effect.”

Gyamfi is thus ruled out of Aduana’s upcoming GPL games against Dreams FC (Away), Nsoatreman FC (Home), Bechem United (Away), Hearts of Oak (Away) and King Faisal (Home).

Barring any successful appeal, he will be eligible to make his return in Aduana’s match-day 20 trip to FC Samartex on March 3, 2023.

The player has also been fined GHS2,000 for the incident and “warned that any future misconduct may result in a more severe punishment.”
