President Akufo-Addo to watch Black Stars World Cup opener against Portugal

Ghana's first gentleman will arrive in Qatar in the wee hours of the match day.

President Nana Akufo-Addo headed to Doha, Qatar on Wednesday to meet and likely watch the Black Stars in their opening game at the 2022 Fifa World Cup against Portugal.

The Ghana senior national team camp has been looking forward to the August visit. This is because the team was given prior notice at the start of final preparations in Abu Dhabi for their fourth World Cup outing on November 15.

During the team’s first meeting, a day after head coach Otto Addo announced his final 26-man roster, GFA President Okraku disclosed:

“On the 23rd, I expect the president of our country to be with us. That should tell all of us what this means for our dear country.

“If the president of the country will be with us, it means Ghana is with us.”

He added: “Our families are supportive of us. Everybody in Ghana and beyond is with us, so you should have all the confidence to go out and play your hearts out and fear no foe because we are Ghana.”
