Kurt Okraku retains Wafu Zone-B presidency uncontested

Ghana football leader Kurt Edwin-Simeon Okraku has retained the post of West African Football Union (Wafu) Zone B president for the 2022-2026 term, returning unopposed.

In May 2021, the Ghana FA capo assumed leadership of the sub-regional body following the election of Niger’s Colonel Major Djibrilla Hima Hamidou to the Executive Committee of the mother body, the Confederation of African Football (Caf).

Kurt Okraku confirmed as new president for Wafu Zone-B

After successfully completing the remaining one year of the Nigerien’s mandate, Mr. Okraku has been approved for a new full term of years after no other candidate filed nominations to contest him.

He was sworn into office during the 15th Wafu Zone-B General Assembly in Cote d’Ivoire on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

The General Assembly is the supreme legislative organ of the football block where key decisions are made for implementation by the Wafu Zone-B Secretariat.

Federation Presidents, Caf General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba and General Secretaries of the seven Associations within the sub-region as well as some invited guests were in attendance.

In his acceptance, President Okraku called for stronger collaboration among Member Associations to ensure that the sub-region’s record as the hub and cradle for African Football is preserved.

Wafu Zone-B is made up of these 7 countries – Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Togo, Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Benin.
