Gyan talks Kotoko desire again, reveals the reason for snub to Legon Cities

Legendary striker Asamoah Gyan has disclosed the telling factor that made him swerve dream club Asante Kotoko for Legon Cities back in 2020.

After 17 years of sojourn in Europe and Asia, the all-time top scorer for the Black Stars made a sensational return to the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

Gyan – who had and continues to vow to play for Asante Kotoko – ditched the idea of signing for the Porcupine Warriors despite an approach to sign for the then free-spending Legon Cities.

Almost two years on, the former Sunderland man has now revealed he had move away from Accra, hence his decision to join the Royals.

“I have been an Accra boy. I didn’t want to move to another city and then Legon Cities contacted me. Although I was talking to Kotoko, I had wanted to be in Accra,” Gyan disclosed in an interview on the Dentaa Show.

Asamoah Gyan: I will not play Kotoko for free

But his stint with Cities did not turn out well as envisaged. Blighted by injuries, Gyan could only combine a total of 96 minutes in 6 games during the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.

Currently club-less and back on his feet working to get in shape, Gyan has once more reiterated his desire to don the red shirt.

“When I get fit and start playing competitive football, obviously I will play for Kotoko,” he declared.

Asamoah Gyan also has sights on making the Black Stars party to the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.
