Wollacott picks Asamoah Gyan as favourite Ghanaian player

Black Stars goalkeeper, Jojo Wollacott says former captain Asamoah Gyan is his favourite Ghanaian footballer of all time.

The legendary striker was a star performer when Ghana nearly became the first African country to reach a World Cup semifinal but for a controversial quarterfinal defeat to Uruguay some 12 years ago.

Wollacott, who was a teenager – about 13 years old – during the South Africa 2010 World Cup, followed the exploits of the Black Stars and Asamoah Gyan behind the TV set at home.

“I would say Asamoah Gyan because of the 2010 World Cup,” responded Wollacott in an interview with Sahara Football.

“I can remember we all sat here at home with Ghana shirts on.

“The tournament was a celebration of Ghanaian culture and he was the star player,” he added.

The Swindon Town goalkeeper is in line to be at the World Cup and keep for Ghana after helping the Black Stars to qualify for Qatar 2022.
