10-man Accra Lions pip Karela

Debutants Accra Lions enhanced their survival chances with the three points at home to Karela United in a 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 24 clash on Saturday.

The closely-contested game at the Accra Sports Stadium produced no goal in the opening half despite good chances created by either side.

Things got a bit difficult for the hosts a minute from the break as they had winger Daniel Awuni shown the red card.

Playing with 10 men for the remainder of the game, Lions had to dig deep to win.

And the game-winning goal came through lanky striker Fredrick Asante who headed home a free-kick from Abass Samari in the 71st minute.

The 1-0 win means Accra Lions move 6 points clear of the relegation spots. They have now amassed 30 points from 24 games, Karela United, on the other hand, still place above them with 33 points.

Accra Lions’ Rashid Abubakar won the NASCO man-of-the-match award.
