2022 World Cup: Otto Addo relishes another Ghana-Germany match-up

Ghana Black Stars coach, Otto Addo says he will like a match-up with Germany when the 2022 Fifa World Cup draw is held today.

The 46-year-old participant of the 2006 edition led Ghana to a 4th qualification for the Mundial by getting the better of Nigeria’s Super Eagles in two legs, a feat that makes him the 4th African to qualify for the World Cup as both player and coach.

Ghana have been kept in Pot 4 for the draw and will know the group stage opponents and match schedule after the event later on Friday.

The draw process will compose the 8 groups for the tournament and also decide the respective match schedule up to the final game.

Addo played his club football in Germany, notably with Borussia Dortmund where he currently also works as a coach.

A lot of talk has been generated about the draw with many Ghanaians praying against the Black Stars getting a difficult group.

Offering his thoughts on the upcoming draw, Addo told Takoradi-based Empire FM:

“Yeah it’s a special duel for me because I was born in Germany. that is why I will like it.”

“For me, it will be a little bit easier (facing Germany) because I know the players better and it will be easier to find solutions,” he added.

The Black Stars have met Germany in two of their three World Cup outings – a 1-0 loss to the Germans at South Africa 2010 and a 2-2 draw at Brazil 2014.

The 2022 Fifa World Cup draw will take place in Doha, Qatar at 16:00 GMT.
