Jordan Ayew tests negative for COVID, expected to join Black Stars camp

Ghana striker Jordan Ayew is now available for the 2022 Fifa World Cup playoff tie against Nigeria.

The 30-year-old sat out of Crystal Palace’s FA Cup 4-0 victory against Everton on Sunday after testing positive for COVID-19.

He has now tested negative and is expected to join the team in Kumasi.

“Jordan Ayew has tested negative for COVID and will join the team later this week in Kumasi ahead of the Nigeria game,” GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum revealed.

Ayew, who made his Black Stars debut in 2010, has 18 goals in 73 appearances for the team.

The Black Stars arrived in Kumasi on Tuesday afternoon to continue their preparations for the first leg.

Ghana will play Nigeria on Friday at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The second leg will be played on Tuesday, March 29 in Abuja.

The winner of the tie will qualify for the 2022 Fifa World Cup finals in Qatar later this year.
