2022 WCQ Playoffs: 7 players report for first training in Accra ahead of Ghana vs Nigeria

Ghana began 0n-field preparations with a session in Accra on Monday for the first leg of the 2022 Fifa World Cup playoffs tie with Nigeria scheduled for Kumasi later this week.

Seven players were present on the first day of training at the Accra Sports Stadium, with several members of the “ghost” squad expected to arrive in the country later on Monday night.

The Ghana Football Association has decided not to announce the squad invited by interim coach Otto Addo.

But the identities of the players are gradually becoming known as they hit the national team camp.

Deputy captain Thomas Partey – who is to lead the Black Stars in the absence of suspended Andre Ayew – is among the first players to link up with the national team camp after helping Arsenal to victory against Aston Villa last Saturday.

Present at training alongside Partey were Reading’s Andy Yiadom, Edmund Addo (KF Tirana), Abdul Fatawu Issahaku (Sporting Lisbon), Dennis Korsah (Hearts of Oak), as well as goalkeeping duo Jojo Wollacott (Swindon Town) and Abdul Manaf Nurudeen (KAS Eupen).

Head coach Otto Addo and his two assistants, Didi Dramani and George Boateng took the team through a light recovery training, with Technical Advisor Chris Hughton also present.

The team is expected to train again on Tuesday morning before their departure to Kumasi in the evening where they will continue preparations for the crucial first-leg tie.

The Black Stars are scheduled to enjoy two training sessions at the Baba Yara Stadium on Wednesday and Thursday before the game at 19:30GMT on Friday, March 25.
