Lions, Olympics draw Accra derby 0-0

Accra Lions and Great Olympics could not find a goal to win their second capital derby on match-day 19 of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) Sunday afternoon.

Clear chances were few and far between at both ends of the Accra Sports Stadium in what was the second-ever league derby between the two teams. The first – on match-day 2 last November – ended 3-1 in favour of Olympics who played hosts.

Lions had their first clear chance after the hour mark and came close once more in the 75th minute but a goal will just not be recorded.

The barren stalemate means both Lions and Olympics have drawn for the 6th and 8th time respectively in 19 matches played so far.

Aside from earning a point to take their tally to 21, Lions – who now sit 14th in the standings – will take delight in first-choice keeper Frederick Asare recording his sixth clean sheet of the campaign.

For Olympics, it is a missed opportunity to keep second spot as they have been displaced by Aduana who travelled to beat king Faisal in Kumasi.
