Philemon Baffour: Black Stars defender signed to Rio Ave U-23s

Black Stars defender Philemon Baffour has signed for Portuguese second-tier side Rio Ave FC.

The right full-back – who turns 21 on February 6 – joined from Dreams FC in the Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC where he made six appearances in the ongoing 2021/22 season before this switch.

Per information on the Rio Ave official website, Baffour has been registered with the club’s U-23 squad from where he would be fighting to break into the first team.

Baffour was a member of the Black Satellites side that won the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) title in Mauritania almost a year ago.

He was subsequently promoted to the Black Stars but continued to split opinions with his noninvolvement in any of the Ghana national team’s matches over the period.

Also signed to the Rio Ave U-23s is fellow Ghana u-20 Afcon-winning and Dreams FC teammate Mohammed Sulemana.

The 19-year-old made a 10-minute substitute appearance in the side’s 4-0 away defeat to SC Braga in the Portuguese Revelation League on Monday.
