We selected the best players available for Afcon 2021 – Ghana FA Prez

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Okraku has claimed the 28-man squad Ghana took to Cameroon is the best the country has.

People have continuously questioned why some players are earning Black Stars call-ups without being involved in games.

Comoros kicked the four-time African champions out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) at the group stage after a humiliating 3-2 loss on Tuesday.

It was the first time Ghana is not making it past the group stage of the Afcon in 16 years, and without winning a game for the first time ever.

Speaking in an interview on Thursday, Okraku contended that the 28 players are the best and called for patience in “this difficult time”.

“The players we took to the Afcon are the best we have,” he told Accra-based Asempa FM.

“The Kamaldeens, the Fatawus and co are the best players we have.

“If you mention three good players we did not add to the squad, I’ll be very surprised. All the players deserved to be selected. Coach Milo and his technical team did the selection.

Kurt also added that there was nothing like interference in the selection of players.

‘If a coach allows someone to select his players for him, then the coach doesn’t deserve to be the coach of Ghana,” he added.

Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has summoned the GFA for an emergency meeting to deliberate on the shambles in Cameroon on Friday, January 21.
