Black Stars head coach Milovan Rajevac added five home-based players to his 30-man provisional squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
A squad announcement briefing held in Accra Tuesday afternoon heralds the beginning of Ghana’s preparation for the 33rd Afcon tournament scheduled for January 9 to February 6, 2022, in Cameroon.
Free-scoring Real Tamale United (RTU) midfielder David Abagna Sandan is rewarded with his debut call-up following his exploits in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) where he has notched 8 goals and provided two assists in 9 games.
Great Olympics forward Maxwell Abbey Quaye was also handed his debut after a great start to the ongoing Ghana Premier League season. He has scored 7 goals thus far this season.
Dreams FC’s young lateral Philemon Baffour – who has been a regular customer in the Black Stars – made the cut for the training camp.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Richard Attah are the other two players named from the Ghana Premier League in the provisional.
Ghana will kick-start preparations for the Cameroon 2021 Afcon beginning December 22 in Doha, Qatar for 17 days.
