2022 WCQ: Safa to consider options after Fifa blow

The South African Football Association (Safa) has indicated it will consider its options upon the receipt of details for the dismissal of its protest to Fifa against Bafana Bafana’s 1-0 loss to Ghana in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers last month.

The result saw Ghana progress to the playoffs by the narrowest of margins, level on 13 points and goal difference in Group G with South Africa but the Black Stars having scored more goals.

Following the November 14 defeat, Safa launched a protest with all manner of allegations.

But on Friday, December 3, Fifa threw out the appeal as it practically did not meet certain requirements for it to be considered.

“Safa will consider its options after the world football governing body (FIFA) dismissed its protest after Bafana Bafana’s controversial 1-0 loss to the Black Stars of Ghana last month,” read a publication on the Safa website.

In a reaction, Safa CEO, Advocate Tebogo Monthlante, is quoted as saying that the decision received was not detailed.

“We have received the decision without details and we will request Fifa for the reasons and consider our options,” said Monthlante.

Until any turn of events, Ghana will now focus on the World Cup playoffs draw scheduled to be held in January 2022.
