Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye joins FC Basel on trials

Ghana youth international, Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye has arrived in Switzerland on trial with giants FC Basel, Footy-Ghana.com has confirmed.

The versatile full-back arrived in the European country in the company of his representative on Sunday.

Abbey-Ashie Quaye was one of the revelations of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League helping Accra Great Olympics – where he played on loan from Attram de Visser Academy – to a sixth-place finish.

On top of his first topflight experience was a brilliant outing at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) with the Black Satellites who went on to win the tournament in Mauritania.

Last August, the 20-year-old was handed a late invite to the senior national team ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia.

After completing the loan, Abbey-Ashie Quaye did not extend his stay with Olympics who blocked him from travelling after offers from LA Galaxy in the US and KSC Lokeren came through upon returning from the U-20 Afcon in April.

FC Basel is the second European club Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye will be having a trial with, in his young career. Two years ago, he was at FC Porto but could not land a deal.
