Stop focusing on Black Stars bonuses – Gyan tells Ghanaians

Former Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan has advised Ghanaians to follow the team’s performance in tournaments and not their bonuses.

The 35-year-old striker says Ghanaians tend to distract the Black Stars’ focus on winning tournaments with too much focus on the senior national team’s bonuses.

Bonuses given to the senior national team have been of major concern to Ghana football fans and there have been divided opinions for over 15 years now.

From tournament budgets to camp activities by team Ghana to the formation of committees to investigate happenings at international competitions, Ghana never mutes on matters of winning bonuses.

For Gyan, that should not be our focus!

“I have never seen a country so focused on what players earn during the tournament than the trophy.

“Usually when we set up to play an Afcon tournament, the whole country discusses the bonus of the players rather than thinking of the trophy at stake.

“We are divided as a nation and it is something that does not help the course of the Black Stars. The players get distracted by such acts,” Gyan told Asempa FM.

Ghana will be playing at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Cameroon.

The Black Stars are drawn in Group C with Morocco, Gabon and Comoros.
