Asamoah Gyan has labelled Ghana’s group in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) as a tricky one and believes any of the four countries can progress.
The striker was part of the legends and ex-captains selected by Caf to conduct the draw held in Yaoundé Tuesday night.
Seeded in pot 2, Ghana ended up being drawn against Morocco, Gabon and Comoros in Group C of the January 9 to February 6, 2022 continental showpiece.
Rating the Black Stars’ chances of sailing through in their quest for a fifth Afcon title, Gyan said:
“I think is a tricky group, Morocco is up there, they conceded one goal in the qualifiers which statistically is one of the strongest.
“Ghana is also there, that’s my country and I will be rooting for them.
“Everybody who has qualified for the African Cup of Nations is coming to win.”
The Ghana all-time leading scorer advised the senior national team to target qualifying from the group stages before thinking of winning the trophy.
“Statistically, we are up there, but we don’t know what is going to happen.
“We just have to stay focused and do what we can do to qualify from this group then see what happens.
“You can’t think about winning the cup without progressing from the group stages,” he added.
Ghana’s last Afcon triumph came in 1982.
