2022 WCQ: Akonnor to name Black Stars squad for September games Friday

Ghana coach Charles Akonnor will name his Black Stars squad for the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers on Friday, August 13, 2021, Footy-Ghana.com understands.

The Black Stars – after qualifying for a record ninth Africa Cup of Nations tournament – will now focus on sealing a spot for the World Cup when they begin the qualifiers in September.

Ghana are paired with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia in Group G.

Akonnor’s squad last played in two friendlies against Morocco where they lost 1-0 and a goalless draw with Ivory Coast in Cape Coast.

The Stars will play Ethiopia and travel to South Africa for their second game in the September international matchday break.

Ghana will later on play Zimbabwe at home in their third game. The senior national team last missed out for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Group G: Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia

  • Ghana vs Ethiopia – September 1-4
  • South Africa vs Ghana – September 5-8
  • Ghana vs Zimbabwe – October 6-9
  • Zimbabwe ve Ghana – October 10-12
  • Ethiopia vs Ghana – November 11-13
  • Ghana vs South Africa – November 14-16
