Grant pleased with Stars performance in win over Mozambique

Black Stars head coach Avram Grant has expressed his happiness over the showing of the team in their 3-1 win over Mozambique in the 2017 AFCON qualifiers.

Goals from Frank Acheampong, John Boye and Jordan Ayew gave Ghana its third win in Group H to stay top of Group H.

Despite not keeping a clean sheet, Grant said at the post-match conference that he was glad with what he saw from the team.

“It was a good win against a good team. The Mozambicans knew how how to play football. I am happy that we scored three fantastic goals especially the third one from Jordan Ayew. We are looking forward to the next game.”

Despite the win for the Black Stars, some observers said that the Black Stars did not play with enough intensity and they seemed to have underrated the visitors.

But Grant said the players were at their best.

“I really did not see that my players disrespected the Mozambicans. They were serious and they followed the plan we spoke of. As for total domination of an opponent, it is not something that can happen in football.

“You cannot dominate a team for the entire duration of a match. That does not happen even with the best teams in the world.”

The victory came at a cost though as Frank Acheampong and John Boye were substituted due to injury. Grant stated that he could not give a lot of information on the health of the players or their absence.

The return leg of the tie will be played on Sunday in Mozambique.
